Write snippets people actually click
A meta description does not affect ranking directly, but it is often what decides whether someone clicks your result or the one above it. Two near-identical rankings can get very different click-through rates purely on the snippet.
Paste your page content or describe the topic, and get options sized to display in full rather than being cut off mid-sentence.
What makes a description worth clicking
Three things, and the first is the one most descriptions fail — they describe what the page is about rather than what it delivers.
- Say what the page delivers. The difference between “information about resumes” and “build an ATS-friendly resume in minutes, free”.
- Give a reason to click — a benefit, a number, or a clear outcome.
- Drop the filler. A phrase that could describe any page does not differentiate you from the other nine results.
Why length actually matters
Google typically displays roughly 140–160 characters before truncating with an ellipsis. A description cut off mid-sentence looks unfinished, and that undercuts an otherwise strong page.
- Front-load the important part — the tail is what disappears.
- Mobile truncates earlier than desktop, so write for the shorter limit.
- This sizes options to display in full, which removes the guesswork.
Match the description to the page
A compelling description that does not match what the page delivers raises bounce rate and erodes trust over time. Google does track post-click signals to some degree, so overselling is a short-lived win at best.
- Be honest about what the page contains — just phrased in terms of what the reader gets.
- If the page is a tool, say what it produces. If it is a guide, say what it answers.
- Write one per page. A site-wide description is the same as having none.
Written in your browser
Your page content is used to generate options and is not sent anywhere to do it.
- No account, and nothing kept afterwards.
- Which means an unpublished page can go in before it is live.
- Generate several, pick one, paste it.
Four numbers worth keeping
Why Parix.ai gives this away
The description is the only part of your page most searchers ever read, and it is usually written last and worst. These tools are the same checks we run for clients — which is why there is no paywall and no sign-up.
Write my descriptionWho uses it
Anyone publishing a page that has to compete in a results list, and SEO teams fixing pages where a CMS filled the description with the first paragraph.
Check it before publishing
Preview how it will actually display with the SERP Snippet Preview, and generate the rest of the head block with the Meta Tag Generator.
When every page needs one
Writing these by hand across a few hundred pages is the kind of job that never finishes. Our web team builds sensible defaults into the template so the blank ones stop appearing.
