Cut anything you would not actually be asked. Invented questions are worse than no FAQ.
A good FAQ does two jobs at once, and most pages do neither well.
It removes the objection that stops someone buying, and it gives search engines a clean, quotable answer to a question people actually ask. The second matters more than it used to, because AI Overviews lift exactly this format.
The Parix.ai FAQ generator writes both halves: questions phrased the way people search, and answers short enough to be quoted.
40 to 60 words, self-contained, with the answer in the first sentence.
That last part is where most FAQs fail. An answer that builds towards the point cannot be extracted, because a snippet takes the beginning and stops.
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| “That is a great question. There are many factors to consider, and it really depends on your situation…” | “Around 160 characters on desktop, closer to 120 on mobile. Going over is not penalised — the text is simply truncated.” |
Phrase questions the way a person types them, not the way a company would write them.
“How much does it cost?” not “What is our pricing structure?”
“How long does it take?” not “What are typical delivery timeframes?”
“Can I cancel?” not “What is our cancellation policy?”
The best source for these is not brainstorming. It is your support inbox, your sales calls, and the People Also Ask box on the query you want to rank for. Those are real questions in real wording.
The useful ones are the awkward ones.
“Why are you more expensive?”, “What happens if it does not work?”, “Can I get a refund?” — these are what people actually want answered, and a page that dodges them reads as evasive.
Answering an objection directly is more persuasive than not raising it, because the reader was already thinking it.
Google retired FAQ rich results for most sites, so FAQPage schema no longer produces the expandable answers in search results that it once did.
It is still worth adding. The markup makes your questions and answers machine-readable for AI engines and other tools, and it costs nothing to include — it simply is not a rich-result play any more. Our FAQ schema generator produces valid JSON-LD from your finished questions.
Five to eight on a page. More than twelve and nobody reads any of them.
If you genuinely have thirty, that is a help centre, not an FAQ section. Put the eight that block a purchase on the page and link the rest.
Content teams writing for AI Overviews as well as readers. Support leads turning repeated tickets into a page. Ecommerce and service sites answering the objection before it costs a sale. Pair it with the Zero-Click Content Checker and the AI Overview Optimizer.
Start with the questions you are actually asked. Answer each in the first sentence, then stop.
