Zero-Click Content Checker: Will Your Page Still Earn the Visit?
Ranking and getting traffic used to be the same thing. They are not any more.
A page can sit at position three and receive almost nothing, because the searcher got their answer from the AI Overview above it. Your position never moved. Your clicks did.
What decides whether that happens is not your rank. It is whether your content can be lifted whole in forty words. This checker scores that risk and tells you which signals your page is missing. It runs in your browser — nothing you paste is uploaded.
What AI Overview Optimization Actually Means
Most advice on AI overview optimization stops at "write clear answers." That is half the job, and the easier half.
Being summarisable gets you cited. Being only summarisable means the citation is all you get. The work is doing both at once: answer cleanly enough to be quoted, and include enough that a quote is not the whole page.
Three Things That Make Content Citable
A direct answer near the top — one paragraph, 40 to 60 words, that answers the query completely without setup. The Answer Block Generator drafts these in the right shape.
Clear structure — headings phrased as the questions people actually ask.
Verifiable specifics — numbers, dates and named sources. Vague claims get skipped in favour of pages that commit.
Three Things That Make It Worth Clicking
Original data — numbers you collected cannot be sourced elsewhere.
First-hand experience — a summary restates an opinion but loses the person who held it.
Something interactive — a calculator or template cannot be summarised. It has to be opened.
Featured Snippet Optimization Is the Same Problem, Older
Featured snippet optimization has been around for years, and the mechanics carry straight over to AI Overviews.
The format that wins is unchanged: a question as a heading, then an answer immediately underneath in a clean, self-contained block. Paragraph answers around 40 to 60 words. Lists for anything sequential. Tables for anything comparative. The SERP Snippet Preview shows how that block will actually look in results.
What changed is the stakes. A featured snippet still showed your URL prominently. An AI Overview may cite you in a way most readers never notice.
So the old technique still works — it just needs the second half now. Win the snippet, and give the reader a reason to keep going.
High Impressions, Low Clicks: Where to Start
The fastest use of this tool is to point it at pages you already rank for.
Open Search Console, sort by impressions, and look for pages with high impressions and unusually low click-through. That combination is the clearest symptom of a zero-click problem — Google is showing your page, people are seeing it, and nobody needs to visit.
Those pages are the best place to start because the ranking work is already done. You are not trying to rank something new. You are trying to convert visibility you already have. Our guide to zero-click search covers the wider pattern behind it.
What the Score Measures
The score weighs signals that resist summarisation against signals that invite it.
Resistant — original data, first-hand experience, interactive assets, genuine depth, a clear next step.
Vulnerable — short definitional text, generic advice, and content that answers completely in one paragraph with nothing behind it.
A high-risk result does not mean the page is bad. Some pages exist to be summarised, and being the cited source has real value. It means the page is only summarisable — nothing brings the reader across.
What to Do With a High-Risk Result
Do not delete it. Add one thing a summary cannot replicate.
That is usually the fastest fix available: a real figure from your own work, a short case study, an embedded tool, or a genuine opinion someone might argue with.
One of those changes the calculation for the reader — and often for the AI Overview too, which is more likely to cite a page containing something it cannot generate itself.
Who Uses It
Content teams watching impressions climb while clicks flatten. SEO specialists auditing pages that rank but do not convert. Publishers deciding which articles to deepen and which to leave. Anyone whose traffic fell without a ranking drop to explain it. Pair it with the AI Overview Optimizer, the Answer Block Generator and the llms.txt Generator. If the page is also slow, run it through the Free SEO Audit first — speed and summarisability cost you clicks in different ways.
Check Your Content Now
Ranking without traffic is the quietest way to lose. Paste your content above, see which signals are missing, and add the one thing a summary cannot take.
