Legal basics

A starting document, built from your own answers

If your website collects any personal data — through a contact form, analytics or cookies — then you need a privacy policy. That covers almost every commercial website: Google Analytics alone puts you in scope under UK and EU law.

Answer the questions and get a document written around your actual setup, rather than a template with someone else’s company name swapped out.

Do I actually need one?

Almost certainly yes, and the threshold is much lower than people expect. It is not about selling online or holding accounts — it is about collecting anything at all.

  • A contact form collects a name and an email. That is personal data.
  • Analytics sets identifiers and records behaviour. So does most embedded media.
  • Cookies from almost any plugin put you in scope on their own.

What a policy must cover

Six things. A policy missing any of them is decorative rather than compliant, and the one people most often leave out is the retention period.

  • What data you collect and how, why you collect it and your legal basis.
  • Who you share it with — including analytics and email providers, named.
  • How long you keep it, what rights people have, and how to contact you about it.

An honest caveat

A generated policy is a reasonable starting point for a straightforward site. It is not legal advice, and we would rather say so here than let you find out later.

  • If you handle health data, financial data or children’s data, have a solicitor review it.
  • The same applies if you operate across multiple jurisdictions, where the answers genuinely differ.
  • The cost of getting that wrong is considerably higher than the cost of the review.

What leaves the page

The policy is generated in your browser from the answers you give. One thing does travel, and it is worth being exact about it.

  • Generating: local. Answer the questions, read the policy, copy or download it, and nothing is sent anywhere.
  • The optional email form: not local. Asking for it by email posts your business type, the regulations you selected and the generated PDF itself so it can be attached.
  • If that matters, download it directly and skip the email step.

Why Parix.ai gives this away

We build websites, and the legal pages are the part that gets left until the day before launch. This covers the basics so that day is shorter. It is how people find us, which is why there is no paywall and no sign-up.

Generate my policy

Who uses it

Anyone launching a site that has a contact form and analytics — which is nearly everyone — and agencies producing a first draft for a client to take to their lawyer.

The technical essentials too

While you are covering the legal basics, the Robots.txt Generator and XML Sitemap Generator handle the technical ones.

Launching a site

Our web development team builds fast, compliant-ready sites and sorts the legal-page basics as part of the launch rather than the week after.
