We fed it a 1200×1600 JPEG of 42,804 bytes and downloaded a circular 400×400 PNG of 45,340 bytes — 21.1% of it transparent, which is exactly the four corners a circle leaves behind.
We watched the network the whole time: after the photo was chosen, the tool made no requests at all. Every number above is from that run or counted in the tool's own controls.

Zoom first, then decide on the shape. A circle crops the corners off, so a head framed to the edges of a square loses its top when you switch.

Why the file is a PNG
A circular crop is only circular because the corners are transparent. JPEG has no transparency, so the same image saved as a JPEG comes back as a circle sitting in a white box — fine on a white page, obvious everywhere else.

Being straight with you
This crops a photo. It does not generate one.
- There is no AI in this tool. Despite the name, nothing is generated, retouched or invented. It is a cropper, a matte and a frame, and it will not turn a casual photo into a studio portrait.
- Your photo never leaves your browser. We watched the network while we used it: after the file was chosen, no requests were made at all. There is no upload and nothing to delete afterwards.
- The matte sits behind, not around. It is a flat colour under the photo, so it only shows where the photo doesn't cover. If you want the background actually removed first, run the photo through the Background Remover and bring the cut-out back here.
- It enlarges rather than sharpens. Zooming past 100% is a crop of your original pixels. A small photo zoomed to 300% looks like a small photo zoomed to 300%.
- The crop is centred. You control the zoom, not the position, so a subject far off to one side cannot be pulled into the middle here.
- No lighting, no retouching, no background replacement. Those are edits; this is framing.
